Julie said "I am a passionate artist that just loves to paint! My focus is driven as soon as I see a blank piece of paper or canvas. I get nervous and excited at the same time about the next painting, and don't really know what I am going to paint until I reach my easel!"

Telling A Story

1. Vision & composition- My subjects for this particular underpainting was flute lilies and roses that were growing in my front garden.
2. Base Coat- I picked acrylic colours that complimented each other, choosing cold transparent colours and adding acrylic inks, alcohol inks, water soluble pencils and anything else I could lay my hands on. I worked quickly, all while the acrylic was still very wet. Bear in mind this was one of my first abstracts and I didn't really have a clue what I was doing and if this was going to work.
3. I used the 'livecollage' app to download the underpainting image first and add the subjects on top as a transparency image.
4. Working from the left of the canvas board I added different brush strokes with purples and pinks painting over anything that I didn't want to keep.
5. I finished off painting in my source that was drawn on to the right of the board, by blocking in with loose brush strokes and refining with all the details.
6. Once the painting was dry I varnished the board with satin varnish.
